Then modify it (optional)

How brewing works
Brewing happens in a Brewing Stand, fueled by Blaze Powder. Place up to three Water Bottles in the bottom slots and the ingredient on top. First brew Nether Wart into the water to make Awkward Potions, then add the effect ingredient. Finally apply modifiers to change strength, duration or form.
Potion modifiers
- Redstone Dust — longer duration.
- Glowstone Dust — stronger effect (level II), shorter duration.
- Gunpowder — Splash potion you can throw.
- Dragon's Breath — Lingering potion (effect cloud); add to a splash potion.
- Fermented Spider Eye — corrupts the effect (Night Vision → Invisibility, Healing → Harming).

FAQ
How do you brew potions in Minecraft?
Start with a Water Bottle, add Nether Wart to make an Awkward Potion (the base for almost every potion), then add the effect ingredient — e.g. Magma Cream for Fire Resistance. Use Blaze Powder as fuel in the brewing stand.
What is the Awkward Potion for?
An Awkward Potion (Water Bottle + Nether Wart) has no effect itself but is the base for nearly all potions. The main exception is the Potion of Weakness, which is brewed straight from a Water Bottle with a Fermented Spider Eye.
How do you make a splash or lingering potion?
Add Gunpowder to any potion to turn it into a throwable Splash potion, then add Dragon's Breath to a splash potion to make a Lingering potion that leaves an effect cloud.
What are the new 1.21 potions?
Wind Charged (Breeze Rod), Weaving (Cobweb), Oozing (Slime Block) and Infested (Stone). They trigger an effect when the drinker dies — useful for traps and farms rather than buffs.
