Getting a Cleric: the Brewing Stand
A cleric claims a brewing stand: one blaze rod on top of three cobblestone (or blackstone). That means you need a trip to a Nether fortress first, which is why clerics are rarer in early-game worlds than farmers or librarians. Village temples spawn with a brewing stand and usually a cleric.
How to reroll and lock Cleric trades
Clerics have small trade pools, so rerolling matters less than with librarians — but you can still break and replace the brewing stand before the first trade if a novice rolls redstone instead of the rotten-flesh trade you want. Once you sell even one bundle of rotten flesh, the job and its offers are fixed.
Best Cleric trades by level
- Novice — 32 rotten flesh for 1 emerald — Rotten flesh is otherwise junk. Any mob farm or night of zombie fighting turns it straight into emeralds.
- Journeyman — 2 rabbit's foot for 1 emerald / glowstone for 4 — Glowstone saves another Nether trip for light blocks and potion amplifiers.
- Master — Ender Pearl for 5 emeralds — Lets you stock up for eyes of ender and stronghold hunting without an enderman farm.
- Master — Bottle o' Enchanting for 3 emeralds — XP in a bottle; useful for repairing Mending gear on the go.
Cleric emerald farm idea
Pair a cleric with a zombie or general mob farm. A basic dark-room spawner yields stacks of rotten flesh per hour; at 32 per emerald that funds the cleric's own ender pearls, so you can buy the 12+ eyes of ender needed to light an End portal.
Java vs Bedrock Cleric trades
Java clerics sell ender pearls only at Master level. On Bedrock the cleric's pools are close to Java's but each tier tends to show every trade at once instead of picking two at random, and the Bedrock master trade list can include both ender pearls and Bottle o' Enchanting together.
Cleric trading tips
The cleric is the best rotten-flesh sink in the game: every zombie farm, drowned farm and night of fighting produces flesh that nothing else wants, and 32 of it buys an emerald. Spend those emeralds at Expert on ender pearls, which saves you from hunting endermen before you have a Looting sword. At Master the cleric sells Bottles o' Enchanting, which pour XP straight into Mending gear while you hold it. If you find an igloo with a basement, the zombie villager in the cell is a cleric — cure it with a splash potion of Weakness and a golden apple, and the curing discount makes every later trade much cheaper. Clerics also restock quickly, so two or three of them next to a zombie spawner pay for themselves in a single evening.

What does a Cleric sell?
A Cleric sells Redstone Dust, Lapis Lazuli, Glowstone, Ender Pearl, and more for emeralds.
How do I reset a Cleric's trades?
Before trading with it for the first time, break and replace its Brewing Stand to reroll all offers. After the first trade, its offers are locked.
