Getting a Armorer: the Blast Furnace

Armorers use a blast furnace: five iron ingots, one furnace and three smooth stone. It doubles as a fast ore smelter, so placing one in your base both employs an armorer and halves your smelting time.

How to reroll and lock Armorer trades

Rerolling a novice armorer only swaps its iron armor offers, so the real gamble happens at higher levels — the enchanted diamond armor at Expert and Master is rolled when the villager levels up and cannot be rerolled later. Level several armorers in parallel and keep the one with the best Protection rolls.

Best Armorer trades by level

  • Apprentice — 4 iron ingots for 1 emerald — An iron farm turns this into unlimited emeralds and the trade levels the armorer quickly.
  • Journeyman — 1 diamond for 1 emerald — Not a great rate, but it gives you a way to level the armorer fast if you have spare diamonds.
  • Expert — enchanted diamond leggings (19–33 emeralds) — Diamond leggings normally cost 7 diamonds; buying them pre-enchanted saves both the diamonds and the XP.
  • Master — enchanted diamond chestplate (13–27 emeralds) — The cheapest piece of enchanted diamond armor the armorer offers and often the fastest path to full diamond.

Armorer emerald farm idea

Build an iron farm (villagers, a zombie and a lava-killing chamber) and send the iron to two or three armorers. Four ingots per emerald is enough to buy the master-level enchanted diamond armor, so iron effectively converts into diamond gear.

Java vs Bedrock Armorer trades

On Bedrock the armorer's novice and apprentice tiers include chainmail pieces and a bell, and every offer in a tier is shown together. Java picks two offers per tier at random, so one Java armorer may skip the shield or bell entirely.

Armorer trading tips

Chainmail armor can't be crafted, so an armorer is the only renewable source of it. Chainmail isn't stronger than iron, but it is cheap at low levels and was traditionally used for decoration and armor trims. At Expert and Master the armorer sells enchanted diamond armor, which can roll Protection, Unbreaking or Thorns — another reason to keep one alive in your trading hall. Armorers also buy lava buckets and coal, so a simple lava-collecting cauldron next to a pointed-dripstone setup turns into steady emeralds. If you win a raid, the Hero of the Village effect makes armorers toss free chainmail pieces at you.
